Expecting a new baby? Here’s how to get your home ready!

It’s always a special time when you have a new baby on the way, and our all-woman team of healthcare professionals at Central Clinic for Women is here to ensure that you enjoy a smooth pregnancy from start to finish. The anticipation is often the most challenging part, but the big day will arrive before you know it!
We understand that pregnancy is a life-changing journey filled with excitement, anticipation, and sometimes, a touch of anxiety, but you never have to go through it alone! Our clinic is conveniently located on the Baptist Health campus, and we’re committed to providing the highest quality prenatal care for women in Arkansas. You probably won’t have much time or energy to do much housework for the first several months after your baby arrives, but there are several easy things you can do right now to “baby-proof” your home!
Prepare the crib—You don’t have to buy a brand new crib each time you bring a new baby home, but you’ll want to ensure that it has no sharp corners or edges and it’s in good condition with no broken, cracked, or loose parts. And, except for one tight, fitted sheet, nothing should go into the crib except the baby!
Set housecleaning priorities—Some of us are better than others at keeping our homes clean and organized, but newborns are particularly susceptible to infections for the first two to three months after you bring them home. You won’t have to keep your entire home immaculately clean, but you’ll definitely want to keep any surfaces that you, your partner, or your baby will come into regular contact with clean and sanitary at all times.
Be sure your baby can safely explore—Most babies begin crawling when they reach around 6-10 months of age, and you can count on them getting into just about everything! Be sure to install safety latches on cabinet doors and drawers, and store all cleaning products and medications in securely locked cabinets. You’ll also want to install push-in electrical outlet covers and secure televisions and furniture to the walls to prevent tip-overs.
