Considering birth control? We’re here to help you make an informed decision!

For many women, children are life’s greatest joy—but that doesn’t mean every season of life is the right time to expand your family. Whether you’re not yet ready for your first child or your hands are already full with the children you already have, contraception gives you the freedom to plan your family on your terms. Our all-woman team at Central Clinic for Women proudly provides comprehensive women’s healthcare in Little Rock, and we’re here to guide you through your options with expertise and compassion!
Our services include annual exams, obstetric care, and specialized services such as 3D mammography, menopause care, and Bioidentical Hormone Optimization Therapy (BHRT). When it comes to family planning, our goal is simple: to help you find the birth control method that best fits your lifestyle and health needs.
Every form of contraception has its own unique pros and cons, and no birth control method is 100% effective. The most important consideration is choosing a form of contraception that best suits your lifestyle, and using it correctly and consistently. Intrauterine Devices (IUDs) have a 99% success rate, and are a popular choice because you won’t have to remember to take a pill or insert a device before sexual activity. They’re effective for up to twelve years after insertion (depending on the device you choose), and can be removed whenever you’re ready to become pregnant. We offer IUDs from leading pharmaceutical companies, including Nexplanon, Paragard, Mirena, and Skyla, and we’ll help you determine which device is most suitable for you during your annual well-woman exam.
The device will be inserted during an outpatient office visit, and some IUDs are effective immediately after the procedure. The procedure is relatively painless, but you might experience cramping or discomfort after your IUD is in place. Insertion only takes about 5-10 minutes, but you should plan on taking the whole day off so you’ll have time to rest and recover. Other potential side effects you’re likely to encounter include dizziness, backaches, or some light bleeding or spotting. Be sure to contact your OB-GYN immediately if you experience any side effects that persist for longer than a few days after the procedure.

Menopause begins for most women when they reach their early 50s, but some women might start experiencing symptoms as early as their mid-to-late 40s. What are the most common symptoms of menopause? Many women start experiencing a host of unpleasant symptoms once they reach middle age, including hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, and irregular periods; You might also experience mood swings or struggle to maintain a healthy weight. Menopause affects all women differently, and it’s important to discuss any new symptoms or changes to existing symptoms with your doctor right away. What can I do on my own to manage my symptoms? One of the most important things you can do to manage menopause symptoms is to eat right and get 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise at least three times a week. And if you smoke, quit now! It should also come as no surprise that stress can adversely affect your health, so do your best to identify the natural stressors in your life and plan accordingly. There’s also no shame in talking to a behavioral therapist or other mental health professional if you need further assistance to cope with extreme stress, anxiety, or depression!
