Three easy tips for a successful pregnancy

There’s nothing more exciting than finding out your family will soon be growing, and you’ll probably go through every imaginable emotion by the time you welcome your new child into the world! If it’s your first pregnancy, you only know what you’ve heard and read, but anyone who’s been through the process more than once will tell you that each time was different! Whatever your situation, our team at Central Clinic for Women is here to help!

Our central Arkansas women's clinic is conveniently located on the Baptist Health campus, and our experienced team of healthcare professionals is committed to providing the highest quality care for women of all ages. Our pregnancy care services include prenatal care, postpartum care, and everything in between! Here are a few easy ways to ensure your motherhood journey gets off to a great start, and we're always a phone call away if you have any additional questions!

Hit the books! If this is your first pregnancy, your OB-GYN will be happy to recommend plenty of books and websites to help you educate yourself about what you’ll be going through in the coming months. Your “village” of family and friends will always have plenty of advice to offer, but you might also consider joining a support group for expectant moms if you’re interested in finding a safe space to discuss your feelings and concerns.

Stay properly fed and hydrated. It’s a common misconception that pregnant women must “eat for two,” and you only need to add a few hundred extra calories to your diet during your second and third trimesters. Keep plenty of protein or iron-rich snacks around to help you deal with sudden food cravings, and drink at least 64-96 ounces of water each day. Discuss any dietary concerns or food allergies with your doctor, and check out this blog article for more healthy eating tips.

Get Moving! Your doctor might ask you to put your favorite high-intensity activities on pause for a few months, but you should strive to get at least 150 minutes of moderately intense aerobic activity each week. Prenatal yoga classes are also strongly recommended because they help you improve your flexibility, control your breathing, and lower your stress levels!

As you approach menopause, you’ve probably already heard a lifetime of horror stories from friends and older relatives about what to expect. We’re conveniently located on the Baptist Health campus in Little Rock, and our services include annual women’s health and cervical cancer screenings, 3D mammograms, bone health assessments, and other tests and procedures as needed. Here are a few frequently asked questions about menopause, and we’re a phone call away if you’d like to learn more or schedule your annual well-woman exam. When does menopause begin? Menopause begins for most women when they reach their early 50s, but some women might start experiencing symptoms as early as their mid-to-late 40s. What are the most common symptoms of menopause? Many women start experiencing a host of unpleasant symptoms once they reach middle age, including hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, and irregular periods; You might also experience mood swings or struggle to maintain a healthy weight. Menopause affects all women differently, and it’s important to discuss any new symptoms or changes to existing symptoms with your doctor right away. What can I do on my own to manage my symptoms? One of the most important things you can do to manage menopause symptoms is to eat right and get 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise at least three times a week. And if you smoke, quit now! It should also come as no surprise that stress can adversely affect your health, so do your best to identify the natural stressors in your life and plan accordingly. There’s also no shame in talking to a behavioral therapist or other mental health professional if you need further assistance to cope with extreme stress, anxiety, or depression!
