Annual exams for women are your ticket to health and wellness!

When it comes to women’s health, it’s essential to be proactive! An ounce of prevention is always better than a pound of cure, and our all-female team at Central Clinic for Women is here to help you take charge of your health and wellness journey. Our clinic is conveniently located on the Baptist Health campus in Little Rock, and our team is expertly trained to handle all types of women's health issues.
An annual well-woman exam provides a detailed snapshot of your current health, and typically takes less than an hour. Your clinician will begin by reviewing your current medical history and will ask you a few questions about any surgeries you’ve had, your menstrual cycle, your sexual history, the form of contraception that you’re currently using, and current or previous pregnancies. Your answers will remain completely confidential, and it’s essential to be honest. You should also let us know about any new symptoms you’ve experienced since your last exam, and feel free to ask as many questions as you like.
The next step will be a pelvic examination, which includes a visual examination of the vulva and labia, and a cervical exam. You may experience some brief pressure and discomfort during the exam, and you should let your clinician know if you experience any pain while the speculum is in place. Your clinician might also perform an ultrasound, urinalysis, or a pap smear to check for precancerous or cancerous cells.
Once the pelvic examination is complete, your clinician will perform a clinical breast exam to detect any hardening, thickening, lumps, or other changes in each layer of breast tissue. Annual mammograms are recommended for all women over 35, but you might want to start mammograms at an earlier age if you have a family history of cancer or experience certain symptoms. We proudly offer state-of-the-art 3D mammography, which enables doctors and diagnosticians to see multiple angles and spot changes sooner. Early breast cancer detection is the key to optimal outcomes, and you should also perform a monthly breast self-examination at home; if you detect any thickening or lumps in your breast tissue, be sure to contact us for immediate follow-up.
