Three easy ways to prepare your home for a new baby

Whether you’re expecting your first child or adding to a growing family, it’s essential to prepare yourself for the challenges of welcoming a new baby into your home. You’re in store for plenty of ups and downs over the next few months, and you will likely experience every possible emotion during your pregnancy. But you won’t have to go through the process alone, and our all-woman team of healthcare professionals at Central Clinic for Women
is here to help every step of the way!
We’re committed to providing the highest quality prenatal care for women in Arkansas, and we’re conveniently located on the Baptist Health campus in Little Rock. Here are a few easy things you can do to prepare your home for your new baby, and we're always a phone call away if you have any additional questions!
Prepare your nursery—You can find some fantastic ideas for decorating your nursery online and on television, but always remember that it’s not a competition! Your priority should be creating a space that’s safe, soothing, and functional. The walls should be painted in calming colors, and blackout curtains are a great way to ensure you’re always ready for nap time! You’ll want to invest in a good crib, a changing station with plenty of storage, and a comfortable chair for late-night feedings.
Begin “baby-proofing”—Even though your baby won’t be crawling and exploring right away, it’s never too early to start “baby-proofing” your home! You’ll want to install electrical outlet covers, secure furniture to the walls, and begin storing cleaning products and medication in securely locked cabinets. You shouldn’t expect to keep your home spotlessly clean once your baby arrives, but you will need to get in the habit of cleaning and sanitizing any surfaces you, your partner, or your baby will come into regular contact with.
Set up “work areas” throughout the home—Think of all the places you and your baby will be spending time, and ensure that you always have necessities such as diapers, wipes, and pacifiers within arm’s reach in those areas. Be sure to also stash water bottles and snacks for yourself so you won’t have to make a separate trip to the kitchen at feeding time!
