Lots of women grow up “playing house” and choose to have children while they’re still young enough to keep up with them. But there’s certainly no rush, and it’s alright if your biological clock doesn’t tick quite as quickly! Our all-woman team at Central Clinic for Women is here to help when you’re ready for motherhood, and we’re also here to help when you’re not!
We’re conveniently located on the Baptist Health campus in Little Rock, and provide the full range of gynecology services and obstetric care for women. Our services include annual well-woman exams, maternity care, annual pap smears, menopause treatment, and cervical cancer screenings. We also offer Intrauterine Devices (IUDs) from leading pharmaceutical companies!
IUDs have a 99% success rate and offer many advantages over other forms of contraception. There’s no pill to take, and there’s no device to insert before sexual activity. Hormonal IUDs, such as Mirena and Skyla, release small amounts of hormones over time that partially suppress your ability to release an egg. They also thicken your cervical mucus, making it more difficult for sperm to reach your fallopian tubes. Nexplanon is a hormonal implant that’s placed in your arm, and is effective for five years. Copper IUDs, such as Paragard, are a hormone-free alternative that cause your uterine lining (endometrium) to become inflamed, making it difficult for a fertilized egg (embryo) to implant and develop.
We’ll help you select the product that best fits your body’s unique chemistry, and the device will be inserted during an outpatient office visit. Your IUD will remain effective for up to 12 years, and some IUDs are effective almost immediately after insertion. The device can also be easily removed whenever you’re ready to become pregnant. The most common side effects you’re likely to encounter after insertion are cramping and changes to your menstrual period, and you should contact us for immediate follow-up if you experience severe pain or other unpleasant side effects that persist for longer than a few days.
Our dedicated team of healthcare professionals at CCFW is committed to providing the highest quality care for women of all ages, and we’re a phone call away when you’re ready to learn more about family planning.
